Pray for a Great Set

Jonathan Migneault

Yesterday I featured a new up and coming Ottawa band. Today, I'll cover one of the city's most successful bands, My Dad vs. Yours. Ottawa's premier post-rock group has really made a name for itself in the last couple of years. Their latest album, After Winter Must Come Spring, has gotten heavy rotation on college radio stations across the country and has garnered a slew of positive reviews.

My Dad vs. Yours has also been at the receiving end of some blogger love from Chromewaves, Largehearted Boy and Music (for robots) among others. All the positive attention is well deserved. They add an upbeat pop sensibility to a genre that often takes itself far too seriously. The words "post-rock" and "fun" often don't go well together but My Dad vs. Yours makes it work. Their song "Tanz Mit Uns" is among those rare post-rock concoctions that makes me want to get up and dance.

Last Sunday, they played a glorious set as part of i (Heart) Music's one year anniversary. Despite a few technical difficulties they still managed to entertain a small but enthusiastic crowd.

I had a mic in hand and recorded the entire thing for your listening pleasure.

Enjoy!

I think the tracks might be mis-labelled, yo. "No Farm, No Food, No Future" is definitely Bellicose, and I don't know what Bellicose is.

hmmm...

This was the set list Jose gave me.

It's quite possible that the songs are mixed up because Jose gave me the set list two days after the show from memory.

If anyone can confirm the correct song order with 100 per cent accuracy I'll make the appropriate changes.

Just leave a comment.

Finally using the hosting. No more irate mp3 hosts yelling at us? Whoot.

Hey Jonathan, Bellicose and NFNFNF are definately mixed up. as for Bellicose, it's the second track off our new album. You might know it as "Kids on Psych Drugs". We tend to go by both names...I personally like "Kids on Psych Drugs" better. Who knows, maybe we'll list it as that on the vinyl.

Thanks again.

Thanks! I just made the appropriate changes. The files' names are still wrong (not much i can do about that at this point) but people can change those themselves.

I prefer "Bellicose" as a name, to be honest, but I hear Effrim likes the other...
