Chris and I Love the Alba

Veritas Lux Mea poster girl Jessica Alba doing her best Maggie Gyllanhaal from "Secretary" impersonation for Esquire

Having the gang over tonight to watch The Big Lebowski, drink Natty Light and play Flickerball. If only I didn't have class for three damn hours from 6-9 pm.

Featured Artist: The Hush Sound

Browsing around on Punknews.org, I ran across a little ditty of a band called The Hush Sound. Bob, Greta, Darren and Chris, all hailing from Chicago, IL, are the members of The Hush Sound, whose debut album So Sudden hit stores Tuesday.

With the ever-exploding Chicago music scene, which is rapidly becoming known for producing some of today’s best underground bands, comes The Hush Sound – a much-needed breath of fresh air from the monotony of today’s oversaturated music scene. The Hush Sound offers something different. Comprised of four members (who all sing, by the way), this indie-folk-pop-rock band spurts out songs that are full of catchy guitar riffs, uplifting piano parts and layered male/female vocals. Their style is hard to pinpoint as anything but original and imaginative.

Upcoming shows:
10/16/05 Poplar Grove, IL
11/04/05 Wheaton, IL

My friends have all been recommending songs to each other on our message board, and since they were kind enough to post downloads to their recommendations, I thought I'd pay it forward and give you a listen as well:

From Grego:
Royksopp - "Sombre Detune"
RJD2 - "1976"
Common - "The Corner"

From Pingel, all selections from Showtime's Weeds:
Melvina Reynolds - "Little Boxes"
Martin Creed - "I Can't Move"
NRBQ - "Wacky Tobacky"

My Choices:
Wolf Parade - "Shine a Light" (seriously, who hasn't posted this song in the past two weeks?)
Bear vs. Shark - "Buses/No Buses" from one of the best new bands out there in my opinion
Jets to Brazil - "Lemon Yellow Black"

And finally, from ThePartyParty website, some politically inspired audio mixes:
HIV/AIDS
Dick is a Killer
