Rocky Votolato and more...

Plenty of bloggers are talking about Rocky Votolato, so I've been listening to him a lot and in case you aren't, here is another opportunity to check him out. Believe me, he's more than worth it. His songs are beautiful and emotional.
Votolato was on Second Nature Recordings but is now on Barsuk Records.

Lots more mp3s of Votolato's solo work here.
Votolato also fronted the folk/rock band, Waxwing. Lyrically, the songs are similar to the folky storytelling of Votolato's solo work.

Mailbag:
I received Mia Doi Todd and David Thomas Broughton's new works in the mail yesterday, so I'll be letting you know about them later today, most likely. In the meantime, check out their label, Plug Research - lots of talent. Also, Mia Doi Todd will be opening for Dungen on their Fall tour.
Today's Releases:
Sun Kil Moon has a new record coming out today. It is an album made up entirely of Modest Mouse covers. Now Mark Kozelek has already released and album of Bon Scott-era AC/DC covers, but on this new album, Tiny Cities, he reinterprets Issac Brock's songs and makes them his own. It is being released on Caldo Verde Records. Not new to the world of covers, Kozelek has reinterpreted, recorded and performed materials by a diverse array of artists including AC/DC, Kiss, John Denver, Simon & Garfunkel and more.
In addition to this new recording, Kozelek recently recorded Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman" for the Songs from the Brown Hotel charity compilation EP, organized by Cameron Crowe to coincide with his new film Elizabethtown. Sun Kil Moon - Kentucky Woman
