The 50 States: Louisiana

Hey kids! I bet you thought I had given up on this thing, and it's true -- I've been gone waaaay too long. Long story short, I've been swamped at work, swamped at life, and Louisiana was a tall order.

Those cats down there deserve the greatest blog post ever made on an mp3 site, and I've tried my best to accomplish that. With all the shit that they've been through, are going through down there -- I'm just trying to do my part. Of course, Jesus is taking a more active roll, but for me I just hope that my horribly small gesture can provide some sort of relief for those struck by such tragedy.

Louisiana you have given us such things as the worlds largest mardis gras celebration, simultaneausly the worlds largest display of worlds gone wild fodder (amen!), the united states' largest capitol building, the super superdome, the longest bridge over water in the world, oldest railway line in operation, crawfishes, cajunnesss, Louis Armstrong, Geoffrey Beene, Truman Capote, Fats Domino, Bryant Gumbel, Jerry Lee Lewis, Wynton Marsalis, Jelly Roll Morton, Huey Newton, Cokie Roberts, and is also the HIPPEST hurricane target of the 21st century.

Louisiana, we love you -- but we love you so much that we gotta beg you to quit building your cities so damn close to DANGER! Here's an even 100 songs for you, woot!

Thanks to everyone that helped me out with the LA songs -- your gestures were appreciated. Next up is Maine, so I'll probably need all the help I can get. Drop some love in the compliments for me, or for Maine.

Also worth a note is that I've introduced a new inline flash player. It's ugly as hell and I have no control over that -- if anyone has a better idea of one that I can run with blogger, kindly let me know!

Haha alright man -- I was laughing about it, too. I just wanted the others to see that if they left their names they could get some links back.

LA was great - Thanks for slogging through a voluminous amount of songs.

Maine is a little different. It's almost the calm before the storm before the heavy remainder of the Ms - Maryland, Mass., Michigan, Minnesota, and especially Mississippi are pretty well-versed.

Some Maine thoughts:

Doris Day - That Jane From Maine

John Phillip Sousa - From Main to Oregon

Jim Chappell - Acadia

Joan Baez/Jack Elliott - Portland Town

New Riders of the Purple Sage - Portland Woman

OK ... I'll admit - I've never heard of any of these songs. All off Napster. It'll be a learning experience.
